Character

As a senior and team captain, Sklar has emerged as a quiet leader over her four years in Durham. As an outside hitter, she has played all six rotations since her freshman campaign. In addition, she has traveled to Europe, China and South Korea with the U.S. Collegiate National Team and the U.S. World University Games squad. She has utilized her international experience to push her teammates and elevate the Blue Devil program.

Community

The Duke volleyball program has long been an advocate of community service, and Sklar has participated in numerous community service efforts. Sklar has helped the Blue Devils host events such as middle school clinics, breast cancer awareness fundraisers and a clinic for members of the TROSA (Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers) program. In addition, she has used volleyball to raise money for multiple sclerosis research through Duke’s Pennies for Points program. For their efforts, the Blue Devils were honored with the ACC’s Top 6 for Service award in 2014, an accolade presented annually by the conference to program’s that demonstrate dedication to community service and outreach programs.

Competition

On the court, Sklar has been nothing short of extraordinary since her arrival on campus. A two-time AVCA All-American and the 2013 ACC Player of the Year, Sklar currently ranks 13th all-time at Duke with 1,187 career kills. Duke ranked second in the nation in kills per set in 2014, thanks in large part to a career year from Sklar, who averaged a career-best 4.27 kills per set to rank third in the league and 28th nationally. As a junior, she knocked down 10 or more kills 24 times, including each of Duke’s final 11 matches. Sklar also led the team with 12 double-doubles and ranked second on the team with a career-high 282 digs. She has 33 career double-doubles to her credit, excelling both on offense and defense.
