Classroom
Johnson maintains a 3.25 GPA in education with a minor in social work. He’s a two-time Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar as well as a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection. Johnson is also a four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s honor roll.
Character
Johnson was diagnosed with a heart condition upon entering college. Doctors monitored the condition and Johnson was fully cleared to play in January 2008 — the mid-point of his freshman year.
Community
Johnson is involved with several community-service projects, including Marathon Kids, Orange Santa and spending time with youth at various children’s hospitals in the Austin, Texas, area. He also reads to kids at local elementary schools.
Competition
Johnson is a two-time member of the Big 12 All-Reserve team and has played in 88 career games. Last year he ranked second on the team in field-goal percentage (.547), third in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and sixth in scoring (9.4 ppg).
