Eckerman currently sports a 3.05 cumulative GPA while majoring in Youth and Community Studies and is on pace to graduate in May 2015. She is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First-Team selection and a four-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree. Eckerman earned a spot on the 2012 Capitaol One Academic All-District 7 team.

Character

To know Haley Eckerman, you must know the complete person. She is first a mother (her son, Cayden, is 4 and was born May 10, 2010 - prior to Haley enrolling at UT). Eckerman is then a student, excelling in the classroom and projected to graduate in four years. She is also an athlete (two-time National Player of the Year and two-time Big 12 Player of the Year). She truly defines the term role-model for so many young ladies and peers.

Community

Ecerkman earned UT’s 2013-14 Dorothy L. Smith Community Service Award. As a junior in 2013-14, she participated in the Austin Independent School District (AISD) PlayDay, the “Flat Stanley” Project at Carpenter Hill Elementary School and the Neighborhood Longhorns program - where she spoke with middle school students providing advice for succeeding in school. A two-year member of UT’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she has twice participated in Texas THON. In her sophomore year (2012-13), Eckerman participated in the SAAC Canned Food Drive and National Women+Girls Sports Day and mentored children at Woodridge Elementary School.

Competition

Eckerman is a two-time AVCA First-Team All-American (2012 and 2013) who was tabbed the 2013 Volleyball Magazine National Player of the Year. A two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, she also was a finalist for the 2013 Honda Sports Award and was the school’s nominee as the 2013-14 Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year. As a sophomore in 2012-13, Ecerkman was named the 2012 Volleyball Magazine National Co-Player of the Year and COBRA Magazine National Player of the Year while leading the Longhorns to the NCAA Championship. She also earned recognition as the 2012-13 “Longhorn Athlete of the Year,” given to the top female student-athlete at UT. In her freshman season (2011-12), Eckerman was named the 2011 AVCA and Volleyball Magazine National Freshman of the Year and earned AVCA All-America second-team honors.
