Classroom

The 2021 season marks just the second season for Leath in Tennessee’s program after spending two years at Blinn College, but in those two years he has emerged as one of the team’s top performers in the classroom as well as on the field. Leath boasts a 3.53 GPA while majoring in Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication and has made the Dean’s List twice since arriving at Tennessee. Leath was named to the 2019-20 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll following his first year with the program.

Character

A tireless worker on and off the field, Leath has set a great example to other pitchers on the staff on what it takes to succeed on the diamond and in the classroom. Leath is one of the most respected players on the team despite 2021 being just his second season with the program. In just a short time, Leath has already become one of the leaders of Tennessee’s pitching staff. He is also a caring and thoughtful individual, who helps provide meals every year on Christmas day to those less fortunate in his hometown in Texas.

Community

During his short time with the program, Leath has been able to make an impact in the community, as well. In March of last year, Leath and the rest of the UT baseball program held a kid’s baseball clinic to raise funds to aid those who were affected by the devastating tornados that hit the Nashville area a few days prior. Leath and his family also help provide meals to those less fortunate in their hometown in Texas every year on Christmas day.

Competition

Leath is no doubt one of Tennessee’s top pitchers and will play a major role in the team’s success this season. While brief, his success in the shortened 2020 season showed why pro scouts are keeping a very close eye on the senior right hander. Leath was tabbed as 2021 Baseball America Preseason Second Team All-American and came in at No. 36 on D1Baseball.com’s Top 2021 College MLB Draft SEC Prospects List. In his first season with the program in 2020, Leath made five appearances (two starts) and finished the year with a perfect 4-0 record. His four wins were tied for the SEC lead and tied for second in the nation. Leath also led the Vols with 29 strikeouts and ranked sixth in the SEC in strikeouts per nine innings (13.98) in 2020. He was named to the Round Rock Classic All-Tournament Team after helping UT sweep a loaded field that included No. 1 Texas Tech, Houston and No. 25 Stanford.
