Classroom

Jacquelyn Sertic maintains a 3.683 grade-point average as a pre-med (zoology) major and will graduate this May. She has made the dean’s list six semesters and is a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society. Sertic has interviewed for medical schools across the region including at the University of Nevada. Her academic awards include NFCA Scholar-Athlete, CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, two-time Summit League All-Academic Team, two-time Summit League Commissioner’s List, three-time Summit League Honor Roll and Summit League Distinguished Scholar.

Character

Sertic is a people person and natural communicator. She says participating on the NDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council helped her get out of her comfort zone and gave her a taste of post-college life. She is not necessarily trying to be a vocal leader; she’s just trying to put in the work and hopes that influences everybody else. Following an early-season injury to NDSU’s lone senior in 2017, she led by example and guided a roster dominated by freshmen and first-time starters. The result was another league championship and upset of eventual NCAA National Champion Oklahoma at the Norman Regional.

Community

Sertic previously served as the Vice President of NDSU’s SAAC and said, “Being in SAAC and giving back to a community who gives us so much is so rewarding.” She has volunteered with Sanford Health, the Salvation Army, Dorothy Day Food Pantry, Memory Care Cafe, and has helped with other miscellaneous service events around the Fargo-Moorhead area. As a part of SAAC, she helped raise money and gather toys and canned food for nonprofits in the FM area. As a part of Blue Key, she helped put on the Homecoming show, raised money for local nonprofits and kept the NDSU library open 24/7 for students during dead and finals weeks.

Competition

Sertic is a two-time NFCA All-Midwest Regional selection including first-team honors in 2016. She was the 2016 Summit League Pitcher of the Year and is a two-time All-Summit League First Team pick. Entering her senior season, #TheScientist has already been a 10-time Summit League Pitcher of the Week. During her career, the Bison have won three Summit League Tournament championships, have amassed three NCAA Tournament appearances (winning at least one game in each), and captured a pair of Summit League regular season titles. After NDSU upset No. 2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa in March 2016, she was named the espnW.com Player of the Week. She ranked fifth in the NCAA last season with 340 strikeouts and, as of nomination time, has a 54-36 record with three saves and a 2.72 ERA. She also has 633 strikeouts in 597 innings pitched.
