Jamey Smart carries a 3.13 GPA as a business entrepreneurship major. While he aspires to play professional baseball, his ultimate goal is to find a career path that allows him to positively change the world.

Character

Smart is a team captain for the LMU baseball team and is looked to as a leader on and off the field. He has a team-first mentality as was demonstrated by his willingness to change positions and become an outfielder in his senior year after playing first base or DH his first three seasons. His team-centered focus was directly in line with the attitude the 2017 team took en route to capturing the West Coast Conference Championship.

Community

Smart volunteers his time at local animal shelters, walking dogs and caring for the animals. Using his status as a Division-I baseball player, he also volunteers at youth baseball camps in Northern California during his off time.

Competition

Smart was a 2017 First Team All-West Coast Conference selection and is a 2018 Preseason All-WCC pick this year. He hit .326 while appearing in all 56 games and starting 55 in 2017. The native of San Ramon, Calif., scored 35 runs and collected a team-high 41 RBI to accompany 11 doubles and six homers. He led the team in WCC play, hitting .394 with 24 runs scored, six doubles, four homers and 24 RBI, including posting LMU’s lone five RBI game vs. Portland on May 21. The team leader in multi-RBI games with 11, he also managed 21 multi-hit contests in 2017.

Last summer, he earned an all-league selection while playing for the Healdsburg Prune Packers of the California Collegiate League. He earned the honor of RBI King for his 44 RBI in CCL games, finished the season batting .388 with 42 runs scored, 22 doubles, six homers and an unbelievable 71 RBI in just 42 contests. He was also an everyday player as a sophomore in 2016, playing in all 53 games for the Lions. That year, he scored 22 runs and collected eight doubles, two triples, three homers and 27 RBI while hitting .270. As a freshman, he was crucial off the bench, hitting .346 over 26 at bats in the pinch. Smart hit .375 overall in his inaugural campaign while appearing in 36 games and starting six.
