Jamie Smith

Classroom

Smith, a three-time MAAC All-Academic team honoree, carries a 3.98 GPA as a business administration major. She also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District first team accolades and is a member of both the LaPlenta School of Business and Beta Gamma Sigma.

She has interned with Iona Athletics.

Character

Prior to the start of the 2021 spring season, Smith was voted team captain.

“Jamie Smith is a great leader and ambassador of not only Iona Volleyball, but Iona College as a whole. She leads by example through SAAC, where she promotes new initiatives and helps her community. She also pushes her teammates daily to compete and develop a team culture they can be proud of. Smith has grown so much as a person and player and we cannot wait to see all she accomplishes in the future.

Community

Smith is a two-time Iona SAAC President and has served as both the MAAC SAAC Vice Chair and Social Justice Subcommitee member. She was also on the Iona College President’s installation committee. During her time on campus, Smith helped bring to fruition Iona’s first Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Diversity and Inclusion Chair.

She has also been an assistant coach for the Island Volleyball Academy and an event coordinator at Sporttime Multi-Sport event.

Smith has organized the Iona team sending electronic Valentine’s Day cards to cancer patients at St. Jude’s Children’s hopsital.

Other organizations that Smith has volunteered for include: Ionathon, Lift-O-Ween, and MAAC SAAC Voter Registration.

Competition

Prior to the start of the 2021 season, Smith was voted to the All-MAAC preseason team.

Smith earned 2018 All-MAAC second team honors as a member of Iona’s championship team, the program’s second conference title. It was also their second ever trip to the NCAAs.

In 2017, she earned MAAC Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie team accolades.
