Classroom

Jason Goldstein is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as an industrial engineering major. He came back to school after being drafted in the 17th round in 2015 because he wanted to finish his degree.

Character

Goldstein is the leader of the team and the pitching staff. He is one of the few catchers in college baseball who calls pitches for the staff rather than relying on the coaches. Younger players look up to him.

Community

“Goldstein is involved in team volunteering events around the Champaign community and always takes time to sign autographs with kids after games. It’s impressive to see how he impacts youth. I often get compliments from parents on how great of a role model Jason is to their children.” - University of Illinois Assistant Director of Athletics Communication Brett Moore

Competition

In 2015, Goldstein was an All-Big Ten First Team catcher and was rated as the number 11 catcher in the nation by D1Baseball.com. He was drafted in the 17th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015. Goldstein was voted the Best Defensive Catcher and Best Arm in the Big Ten by Baseball America. As of March 9, he was leading the team in hitting in 2016, and he led Illinois to a program record 50 wins and the NCAA’s best winning percentage in 2015.
