Jessie Snyder has a cumulative grade point average of 3.82 with a major in English. She has achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in two semesters. She also takes classes in education with an eye toward teaching after graduation. Snyder was a 2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 second-team member and has been a member of the Patriot League honor roll every semester she’s been eligible. She is a seven-time member of Bucknell’s Dean’s List.

Character

Snyder is a 2011 team captain. She has split time between shortstop and second base as needed for her team. Despite playing multiple positions, her batting average has improved throughout her career. On being a Bison student-athlete: “As athletes we talk about hard work, dedication, respect and perseverance. As a Bison, I’ve learned to incorporate these attributes into the way that I live my life. Being part of the softball team has taught me to constantly pursue excellence in anything I endeavor, and being a student-athlete at Bucknell has taught me a sense of community and purpose. My experience as a Bison has become part of who I am, and it will be something I carry with me long after graduation.”

Community

Snyder works with her teammates as part of the program’s Bison Buddy project, working with local girls who have shown an interest in softball. They keep in contact with the girls throughout the year with activities on and off the field. During the summer of 2010, Snyder remained in Pennsylvania to work at a softball summer camp. During the summer of 2009, she went to Mexico as part of a mission trip. While there, she worked with impoverished and orphaned children. She has also worked with the local Red Cross in disaster preparedness drills.

Competition

Snyder was a 2010 first-team All-Patriot League selection. She led third-seeded Bucknell to its second Patriot League championship title and the first NCAA tournament berth in program history as a junior. She ranks tied for 10th at Bucknell in career home runs, tied for third in school history for single-season games played and tied for fourth in single-season home runs. Entering the season, she needs 20 more games to break into Bucknell’s career games played top 10 and nine runs scored to move into Bucknell’s top 10 in that category. As a senior, she led the league in assists and was second in triples. During the 2010 season, Snyder helped Bucknell achieve several milestones as a team - most wins in school history (28), single-season RBI (219), runs scored (249) and doubles (75). Bucknell head coach Heather Rakosik on Snyder: “We’re lucky to have all-league performer Jessie Snyder back. She is a very versatile player that can play almost anywhere. She’s definitely shown that she’s a solid second baseman and a consummate leader on the field.”
