Character

From coach Carrie Yerty: J"odi is a tremendous leader and role model. She is truly a servant leader. Ms. Purdy has the unique ability to make those around her better. I have been a head coach at the Division I level for almost seventeen years and I have never coached a more dedicate selfless player. Not only is Jodi a great player, a team captain and an exceptional student with unquestionable character but she is an inspiration both on the court and in the classroom. She is one of those rare people that will continue to positively affect those she comes in contact with throughout her life. Her contagious energy and her genuine love for others is such a special gift.”

Community

Purdy has been highly involved in the community though both the volleyball team and the Wyoming Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  She along with other student-athletes through FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) completed a trip to Haiti in May of 2012. The mission was to serve the Haitian community through service projects and teaching sports. During her career, the team has participated in the Adopt-a-Family, raising and donating money to a fund all-year round, then giving necessities and gifts to a family in need in Laramie. The team also hosted a Valentine’s Day Volleyball Clinic, with the proceeds going to that cause as well. They also helped with the Toys for Tots drive during a football game and a Christmas Carnival was set up with some of those gifts for underprivileged kids in the community. Purdy was involved in the SAAC Blood Drive, which student-athletes are able to donate to the annual blood drive.  Besides those activities, she and her teammates collected food items for Interfaith-Good Samaritan, a shoe and clothing drive to help the community, the Cowgirl Basketball Walk for Women, which supports the cure for Breast Cancer, and the Dr. Suess’ Read across America program.

Competition

An AVCA Honorable Mention All-America selection in 2011, Purdy was the first Cowgirl player to receive that honor since 1989. She was also selection AVCA All-West Region during her junior campaign. Purdy has earned First Team All-Conference honors twice (2010, 2011), while garnering Mountain West Freshman of the Year accolades in 2009. She has been named preseason All-Mountain West (2010, 2011), MW Player of the Week three times and to the All-Tournament Team at the Mountain West Championships in 2011. She has led the team in kills and points over the past three years.  This past season, she reached 1,000 kills in her career, becoming the 11th person in school history, and currently sits in 8th all-time with 1,157.
