Joe Ravert has a 3.64 GPA as an accounting major just one semester shy of graduation and was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Team last spring. Ravert also was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team in 2015. As a junior he was elected to the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Baseball Team, which is selected through voting conducted by the sports information offices of 29 institutions in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. He also has been a mainstay on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll since arriving at La Salle.

Character

“Joe has been a great example for the La Salle University Baseball Program and the La Salle Community. He has officially been a team captain for us the last two years, but in reality he’s been a leader for us for four years. He’s been a two-way starter, both on the mound and at a 1B/DH. He comes in outside of practice hours to take swings if he is going to be working with the pitchers that day, or throws bullpens after practice if he is working out as a position player. This sets such a great example of work ethic for our younger guys. He was All-Conference and an All-Big 5 selection last year after earning an A-10 All-Rookie nod as a freshman. He takes his academics seriously as displayed by his high GPA, and he helps tutor our young guys in their academic affairs. Joe is deeply rooted in his Catholic faith and regularly attends Mass on campus. He’s been a pleasure to coach, and I’m sure that I learn more from Joe than he learns from me.” - Mike Lake, La Salle Head Coach

Community

Ravert has been a frequent volunteer for Midnight Run, making trips to New York City in the middle of the night to help distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to the homeless and poor on the streets of NYC. For the past two summers, Ravert has been a camp counselor for local youth camps in the towns where he has played summer league baseball (2014 in Strasburg, Va. and 2015 in Harwich, Mass. while with the Cape Cod League’s Harwich Mariners). He’s also been a four-year participant in the LaSallian Day of Service, gathering with other Lasallians and helping to gentrify the community surrounding the University. In December 2014, Ravert served as a MECO Leader (Malvernians Encountering Christ through Others) for the senior retreat at his former high school (Malvern Prep). There he delivered a speech on Christian leadership. The Havertown, Pa., native also participated in a function called Empty Bowls through Malvern Prep, where her worked with a group to make ceramic bowls to feed the homeless while talking to them about their life experiences. The senior also has been a consistent participant in Catholic Masses offered on campus throughout his four years.

Competition

Early on in his senior campaign (as of March 9), Ravert has five RBI in his first seven games after a successful summer in the Cape Cod League with the Harwich Mariners. Ravert earned the following accolades during his junior season after hitting .338 with 11 homers and 44 RBI’s: ABCA/Rawlings All-Region, ECAC Division I All-Star, first-team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Big 5. He also led the A-10 with a .676 slugging percentage last season, and his 11 home runs were good for third in the conference. His .400 on-base percentage last year was a career best. On the mound as a junior, Ravert had a 3.80 ERA through 12 starts and earned a Big 5 Pitcher of the Week award after seven shutout innings against Davidson. Ravert drove in 22 runs as a sophomore and also made 11 appearances on the mound (eight starts). He got his career off to a strong start, hitting .310 with a team-best .393 on-base percentage en route to an Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection as a freshman in 2012. He also made 15 starts on the mound and earned A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week and Big 5 Player of the Week honors on April 15.
