Character

As a leader among his peers, Tobias was one of three student-athletes who represented the Southeastern Conference at the annual NCAA Convention on proposed governance rule changes under the NCAA’s recently adopted Division I autonomy process. He was part of the five conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12 and SEC) to “engage and empower student-athletes by giving them both a voice and vote within a transparent decision-making process.”

Community

Tobias was named to the 2014 SEC Community Service Team. He volunteered with Climb for Cancer, an event in which Gator student-athletes play games and participate with cancer-stricken kids and their siblings in a variety of sports on campus. Tobias helped out at the Littlewood Elementary School carnival and participated in the annual Gator Tracks shoe drive. Tobias is a University of Florida Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and a Florida Letterman Award Committee member and presenter.

Competition

Tobias was a starter on the 2014 Gators’ squad that captured the SEC Championship and earned the No. 2 seed for the NCAA Tournament. He was also chosen to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2012 and helped the Gators reach the NCAA College World Series that season. Tobias was named to the 2014 SEC All-Tournament squad after batting .308 (4 for 13) with four runs, three RBI and a pair of walks. He was 2 for 3 with two runs and the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning as the Gators ousted Kentucky. Tobias had an RBI single up the middle in the 5-1 win over Mississippi State, and he started the Gators’ sixth with a homer to left field against No. 6 South Carolina and scored twice in the win over the Gamecocks.
