Julia Ashley

Julie Ashley is earning a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise and sports science and possesses a 3.056 grade-point average. She was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Ashley also was named to the 2017-2018 All-ACC Academic Team for the women’s soccer program.


From 2015 to 2018, Ashley has been an active member of the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy. The academy’s main objectives are to cultivate, accelerate, incubate and activate the freshmen athletes. Through the leadership academy, Ashley is learning how to effectively be a leader on and off the field, how to create a positive team environment and chemistry, and participating in different exercises to build a foundation of leadership within the team. Ashley was elected captain during her junior and senior years by earning the respect of her teammates and coaches. She helps lead the team by example and through positive communication.


From 2015 to 2017, Ashley participated in the Pen Pal program with New Hope Elementary School. Within the program, she has written letters back and forth to the children from the school to eventually meet them at a baseball game at the end of the year. In December 2017, Ashley donated money to give children gifts during the holidays through the Share your Holiday with Orange County Social Services. She has been a participant in Habitat for Humanity in the summers of 2016 and 2017, building homes alongside student athletes at UNC for those who had their houses destroyed from natural disasters in the Orange County area. In July 2018, Ashley volunteered her time in the pediatric inpatient playroom and the Ronald McDonald House resource room at the UNC Children’s Hospital, and she has assisted with the pediatric parents’ night out.


This season, Ashley has been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and been given Top Drawer Soccer National Player and Team of the Week honors. She has received this title every year since 2015. 

In 2017, she received United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team honors and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week three different times. In 2016 and 2017, Ashley was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.

In 2015, Ashley received Top Drawer Soccer First Team Freshman All-America honors and was named to the freshman All-ACC Team.
