Classroom

Katie Day is currently pursuing her degree in elementary education and is expected to graduate in May 2018. She is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection (2015-16, 2017-18). In 2017, Day was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, which is a nonprofit organization that was established to recognize college student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition. Their purpose is to reward high academic scholarship of college athletes and recognize outstanding academic achievement.

Character

Last year (2017-18), Day was awarded one of the women’s soccer team’s highest honor, the We Not Me Award. The award recognizes a member of the program who prioritizes the team’s success over individual accolades. Day is a phenomenal representation of the women’s soccer department and Providence College, she carries herself with class day in and day out.

Community

Day has played a big part in the women’s soccer initiative to give back to the community. During the 2016-17 academic school year the team volunteered with the Walking School Bus, a Rhode Island Family Service Initiative. The initiative aims to improve school attendance of local Providence you. Day took every opportunity she could to walk students from their home to their elementary school. The initiative promotes school attendance, physical activity, and healthy relationships between the players and students. It aims to inspire local youth to attend school as well as to pursue higher education and earn a college degree.

Competition

Day has played 50 career games for the Friars. She has scored four goals and tallied two assists in her career. In 2017, she helped Providence reach the BIG EAST Semifinals. With Day controlling the back line she has yet to have a losing season as a Friar (three seasons). Providence only has 10 winning seasons in their 35-year history. In 2016, she started each game for the Friars (20) leading them to a 11-7-2 record. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Aug. 22 of that season. In 2017, Day broke out as the star for Providence. She started every game and registered three points against Brown on Sept. 7, with one goal and one assist as a defender. Day was named to All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team last season, she was also the BIG EAST Defender of the Week on Sept. 17 and part of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 11 and Sept. 25. This season Day has already been named BIG EAST Defender of the Week on Aug. 20 and helped lead their defense to a 3-0 start to the season. They went on the road and only gave up one goal against No. 3 North Carolina and two goals against No. 12 Duke.
