Kaylor Chafin received his bachelor’s degree in business in May, registering a 3.05 grade-point average. He was a member of the 2016 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Character

Chafin returned for his senior year (5th year) despite graduating in May and getting drafted in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft by the New York Mets.

Community

Chafin has participated in the Aggie Paint-a-Thon the past five years as the baseball team paints and does outdoor maintenance and yard work for local elders. He conducts mentor work at the College Station Lincoln Recreation Center and helps with an after-school program watching children while their parents are at work. He also volunteers his time in reading programs at multiple local elementary schools and has volunteered at multiple local baseball camps.

Competition

Chafin was 7-2 with three saves and a 2.33 ERA in 2017. He tallied 72 strikeouts, allowing just 16 walks and a .204 opponent batting average in 77.1 innings, and put together a string of 26.1 innings without giving up a run from April 4 to May 16, 2017. He pitched in all seven of Texas A&M’s NCAA Championship games, recording three saves as the Maroon & White made their sixth College World Series appearance.
