Classroom

Murphy has received academic awards in all three of her seasons. She was named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll in 2008 and the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010. Additionally, Murphy was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Academic All-District Selection as a junior. She is an Elementary Education major whose 3.40 GPA ranks among the best on the team.

Character

Murphy has been a leader on the team since her freshman year, as she has started every game of her career. Being a setter requires a certain amount of direction and leadership, but Murphy is known on the team for her work ethic and drive. She is constantly trying to enhance her level of play and inspires others around her to do so as well. She takes the younger players under her wing and helps them adjust not only to the speed of the college game, but also to life as a collegiate athlete.

Community

Murphy has been very active in the community during her career as a Gator. She has participated with her fellow teammates in several service projects, including volunteering with the Baby Gators, Shands Hospital, and at various local volleyball clinics and practices. Additionally, the Elementary Education major has taken a particular interest in Rawlings Elementary School, volunteering a great amount of her time in the classroom.

Competition

Murphy’s athletic achievements speak for themselves. She is a three-time All-American, reigning SEC Player of the Year and was named the AVCA National Freshman of the Year in 2008. She has 23 career triple-doubles, a school record, and 60 career double-doubles. She entered the 1,000 kill and 1,000 point clubs in her junior season and was the only player to rank among the SEC’s top-10 individually in hitting percentage, kills per set and service aces per set. In her three years in a Gator uniform, Florida has compiled an impressive 81-12 record to go along with two SEC titles.
