Classroom

Jones is majoring in multidisciplinary studies, with areas of concentration in business, entrepreneurship and communication studies. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.01 and is scheduled to graduate in May 2012. He is a member of the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and is a Big East Academic All-Star. He is also a recipient of the Big East Team Excellence Award (for highest men’s basketball team GPA in the Big East) in 2010.

Character

Jones was selected as a team captain for both his junior and senior seasons. He has participated in many media obligations including always speaking with national television announcers.  He represented West Virginia University as a tobacco-free Mountaineer for the state-wide Razewv.com campaign. He also represented West Virginia University in promoting alcohol awareness and responsible drinking on campus through Well WVU. Jones has always been a very vocal leader both on and off the court.  He has been counted on as a leader this year with an extremely young team.  Jones is the men’s basketball representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).  HE participated in a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event to honor donors and athletes involved in FCA.

Community

Jones has actively volunteered throughout his four years with the team.  He participated in Red Ribbon week at South Middle School with a message of ‘just say no to drugs’. He has annually attended several Relay for Life events in the local community and participated in the Harrison County Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s fundraising. He has visited various schools around the local community serving as a role model.  He was selected as one of the Grand Marshalls of the Morgantown 4th of July Parade.  He was a guest speaker at the WVU Healthy Kids Club and represented men’s basketball at the Mountainview Elementary Health Fair promoting health and wellness.  Jones has been a part of the Coaches Vs. Cancer initiative at WVU.  He is always willing to give an autograph or make an appearance for worthwhile causes.  For instance, he attended the WVU Scholarship dinner in Charleston, West Virginia, and called university supporters at the annual Thank-A-Thon (calling and thanking supporters for their financial contributions to West Virginia University).  He also participated in an ‘I Love You’ party for the Volunteer Youth Department of Coal City, WV, involving children with cancer.

Competition

Jones was named to the Big East all-tournament team in 2010 and was also named to the NCAA East Region all-tournament team in 2010. He was Big East Honorable Mention as a junior. Heading into his senior year, Jones is 29th in school history with 1,165 career points and 2nd in school history with 309 career offensive rebounds. He was recorded double figures scoring in 62 games and has 12 double-doubles in his career. Jones started every game the last 2 seasons. He averaged 13.1 points per game as a junior and led the team in rebounding at 7.5 per game.
