Lindsey Schmeiser has a 3.42 GPA while pursuing one of the hardest majors in the school (pre-veterinary). She has been named to the dean’s list twice and to both the ACC and Big Ten All-Academic Teams. Schmeiser has been selected for the Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society this year for which a student must be in top 35% of the class.

Character

Schmeiser is a hard-working leader who is a standout on the field and in the classroom. Schmeiser puts so many hours into her schoolwork and even more into softball practice that she is barely able to find a spare moment. Admired by all her teammates, Schmeiser is one of the leaders of the team in 2016. Schmeiser says that the most important things in her life are her family, dogs and helping animals.

Community

Schmeiser has worked countless hours for Five Star Athletics Softball Camps. She has participated in Humane Society events and has dedicated time to helping with a rabies vaccination clinic. Schmeiser has assisted ASA Transporter for the Schnauzer Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic and also has read to local elementary school kids and answered questions about being a student-athlete.

Competition

Lindsey Schmeiser is one of, if not the best player in Maryland Softball history. At the beginning of the 2016 season, she was first all-time in Maryland program history in batting average (.342), fifth all-time in runs (115), 6th in doubles (36), 2nd in home runs (27), 5th in RBI’s (122) and 6th in walks (75). Schmeiser was named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2013 and All-ACC First Team, setting a Maryland program record in single-season RBI’s (59), which also led the ACC. She was the first Terp to win ACC Freshman of the Year since 1996. Her freshman year Schmeiser was third in the ACC in slugging (.721), third in runs scored (52), fifth in OBP (.443), fifth in total bases (106), sixth in batting average (.347), and eighth in home runs (12). In 2014, Schmeiser missed last 11 games with a knee injury. She hit .286 with 20 RBI’s, 16 runs and four HR’s. In 2015, she was named to the All-Big Ten First Team. She hit at a team-best .369, with a .469 on-base percentage and .690 slugging percentage (13th in the Big Ten). Schmeiser also was eighth in the Big Ten in walks (41) and set a Maryland program record for doubles in a season with 21. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week on 3/16 after going 7-9 with two doubles and three home runs in three games that week.
