Classroom

Mackenzie Dowd owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as a dual major in criminal justice and psychology. Dowd has recorded a perfect GPA and has been on the dean’s list in every semester at Northeastern. Dowd was named a 2015 CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American, as well as CoSIDA Academic All-District in both 2014 and 2015. Dowd also garnered Capital One Academic All-America honors in 2014. Dowd was named the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Northeastern’s first-ever recipient of the award. Recently, Dowd was honored as the ECAC’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2015 as well. Dowd is a two-time winner of the CAA women’s soccer Fall Scholar-Athlete honor and is a CAA All-Academic Team selection. Dowd also was honored as one of Northeastern’s prestigious “Huntington 100” recipients in 2016, which honors 100 students at Northeastern whose collective outstanding achievements span research, athletics, entrepreneurship, community service and leadership.

Character

Dowd has shown exemplary character in a number of different areas over the course of her time at Northeastern. Dowd was named a team captain in 2015, taking a leadership role on the squad. Her work ethic in the classroom is second to none, as evidenced by her perfect academic standing in every semester as a student at Northeastern. Down also has taken a leadership role as the Huskies’ ambassador for Score to Cure, a charity created by NU student-athletes. In this role, Dowd serves as the team liaison with the charity and takes responsibility for organizing team events to raise awareness and funds for Score to Cure and its partners, the Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude’s Hospital.

Community

Dowd has been active in the community in all four years at Northeastern. As a freshman in 2013, Dowd traveled to Nicaragua with her family and donated soccer jerseys to the Soccer Without Borders program. As a sophomore in 2014, Dowd participated in the Playworks Boston program with her teammates, helping to beautify outdoor spaces for a school in Roxbury, Mass. Also in 2014, Dowd and her teammates participated in Operation American Soldier, helping to box up essential supplies for soldiers stationed abroad. Over the course of her four years at Northeastern, Dowd has actively been involved with Score to Cure, a charity created by Northeastern student-athletes to create awareness and raise funds in the battle against pediatric cancer. As a senior in 2016, Dowd has taken the lead in organizing the team’s efforts to support the charity, including the establishment of a Score to Cure game on Sept. 11, which included raffles and promotions to raise money and awareness for the cause. Dowd has been an active participant in community outreach for Score to Cure, including helping to purchase supplies and groceries for the Ronald McDonald House, which is a partner of the charity.

Competition

On the field, Mackenzie Dowd has helped Northeastern to two CAA championships (2013, 2014) and has been honored as one of Northeastern’s most decorated student-athletes in program history. The highest-scoring defender in program history, Dowd currently ranks 15th all-time at NU in career scoring. Dowd was named first-team All-CAA in 2015 after starting all 20 games on defense and leading the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Dowd also earned second-team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades as a junior in 2015. In 2014, Dowd was named the Most Outstanding Player of the CAA Championship as she led Northeastern to its second straight conference championship. Along the way, Dowd earned second-team All-CAA, first-team NEWISA All-New England and third-team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades. Dowd was also named a 2016 Preseason All-CAA selection.
