Classroom

Maddie Bauer carries a 3.56 GPA as an international relations major. Her studies specialize in international security, and social development and human well-being. She was a 2015 NSCAA Scholar All-American, the only representative from the Pac-12. Bauer is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection. During the summer before her senior year, Bauer worked as a product interned at a small startup in Palo Alto that creates personalized sports highlights and updates. She is serving as a teaching assistant for a public speaking class at Stanford during her senior year.

Character

Maddie is a leader on and off the field. She is quick to volunteer for team and school initiatives and provides an example for her teammates to follow.

Head coach Paul Ratcliffe says of Bauer, “Maddie is an incredible leader and has a strong work ethic. She leads by example and is highly respected by all of her teammates.”

Community

Maddie is active in the community and participates in volunteer opportunities individually and with her team.

Competition

Bauer anchors Stanford’s backline as a center defender and is incredibly reliable. She is a two-time NSCAA All-Pacific Region first team selection (2013, 2015) and a three-time All-Pac-12 second team pick.

She is the undisputed leader of the Stanford defense that has not given up more than two goals in a game during her entire career. She is a great teammate and helped mentor fellow centerback, Alana Cook, during her freshman year to the 2015 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year award.

Bauer is an aggressive and physical defender who has great field awareness and often starts Stanford’s attack with her strong distribution skills.
