Madeline Anderson is a sociology major with a 3.23 grade-point average. In 2017, she was a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America and All-Region selection. Anderson also has been named to the dean’s list at Hofstra University and has been a CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient.

Character

Anderson is a multi-year team captain with virtuous traits that make her a true leader. She is vocal on the field, and she takes time to mentor her younger teammates.

Community

Anderson is involved in Hofstra’s community service initiatives. She has taken part in Hofstra’s annual Shake-A-Rake program in which members of the Hofstra community pitch in to clean up the yards of elderly/disabled residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus. Anderson has taken part in the One Love Foundation Yards for Yeardley campaign to raise awareness about relationship violence, and she has helped Hofstra reach their goal of one million yards achieved through walking or running. She also has volunteered at Hofstra’s annual blood drives as a donor and has assisted with the drive by registering other donors.

Competition

In both 2015 and 2017, Anderson helped Hofstra reach the NCAA Tournament, and she has led the team in played minutes each season.

In 2017, Anderson started all 21 games, winning multiple honors: CAA Defensive Player of the Year, All-CAA First Team, All-CAA Championship Team and United Soccer Coaches Association first-team All-Region. She helped anchor the defense, which resulted in 11 shutouts throughout the season, and contributed to two goals and two assists. She also scored the game-winning goals against Fordham and James Madison.

In 2016, she started all 18 games while being part of four shutouts and finishing the season with two goals and an assist.

In 2015, she was an All-CAA Second Team selection, All-CAA Rookie selection, and she started all 21 games. Anderson ended the season with four goals and one assist and was part of a defense that posted five shutouts.
