Marcus Cunningham graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in biology (3.74 GPA) in May. He is pursuing a Certificate of Advanced Study in global health at the David B. Falk School of Human Dynamics, where he currently has a 4.0. He is a two-time ACC Honor Roll member and a two-time ACC All-Academic Team selection. He is a Stevenson Scholar Award and SU Biology Department Academic Achievement Award recipient. He has been honored with the Team GPA Award (highest GPA on the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team) on two occasions and has received personal recognition of academic excellence by Chancellor Kent Syverud.

Character

Cunningham is the team captain and a recipient of the John McElroy Award for Spirit and Dedication, which is voted on by prior winners and presented at the Syracuse men’s lacrosse banquet.

Community

Cunningham is a member of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, through which he volunteers in numerous community activities each semester with other members. He volunteers at Hackensack and Mountainside hospitals. He is also a volunteer coach for Celtic Lacrosse Club. Cunningham also participated in Headstrong Foundation Project Gameday where he helped organize a team to raise funds for cancer research at the Headstrong Showcase. He has also volunteered with a Syracuse top-3 fundraiser, Headstrong Lacrosse Mustache Madness, which raises funds for cancer research.

Competition

Cunningham heads into this season projected as a three-year starter on close defense. He is a two-time ACC Champion as a member of the Syracuse team. He has played in 40 games in his career, causing 18 turnovers and collecting 40 ground balls. He has started all but one game over the last two seasons, with the only exception due to injury and he has committed just five turnovers in his collegiate career.
