Meaghan Nally currently holds a 3.659 GPA. She has been named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star since 2016. She also has her U.S. Soccer “D” Coaching License, which is a career interest of hers for after she graduates. In 2018 she was named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All America First Team selection.

Character

In 2016, Nally watched most of the season from the sideline as a freshman and witnessed the then-best season ever recorded in program history. Then, a week before GU’s first-ever College Cup appearance in 2016, a starting defender became injured, creating Nally’s first career start. Sixty minutes into the semifinals, Nally was isolated in the box and allowed a game-winning goal. That moment could have signaled complete defeat/resignation. Instead, Nally got up, played on and solidified her role as a starter for the team for the foreseeable future.

Since then, there have been only two games in which she hasn’t started and not a single one in which she hasn’t played. She took a moment of destruction and turned it into fuel that has been a driving force for both her and the team through the most successful period of time at GU. In particular, her steady presence and admirable work-ethic have been a catalyst for the high performance of the group. It is rooted in selflessness and accountability coupled with a genuine desire to perform and deliver for the greater mission of the team, all the while, inspiring those around her to do the same. From the moment she stepped onto campus to lying face down in December 2016, Nally has continued to grow, lead and exhibit a guidance, determination and ethical standard that is second-to-none. She is a class act on and off the field.

Community

Nally has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Georgetown since 2016. She is the founder and a member of the executive board of the Georgetown Student-Athlete Mentors (GSAM). Nally is also involved in Project Sunshine, an organization that visits sick children in hospitals to brighten their days. She has participated in Cycle for Survival since 2017, an organization that runs indoor cycling events to raise money for rare cancers. Since 2018 she has been a team captain for Cycle for Survival, where she is in charge of registering and organizing her team and fundraising. She also has been the leader of her team for fundraising since 2017, raising at least $1,000 personally each year. Nally also coaches wherever and whenever she can to demonstrate her knowledge and passion for the game of soccer.

Competition

Nally has appeared in 71 games so far for Georgetown as a defender. She has recorded 18 points off of seven goals and four assists. She was named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and selected as the Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, as well as unanimously selected to the league’s preseason team. In 2018, GU’s best season in program history, she anchored a defense that allowed just 10 goals and 199 total shots from GU’s opponents in 25 games. She was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and an All-East Region First Team honoree. This past spring, Nally was called up to the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team.
