Classroom

Altman has been aptly recognized for his success in the classroom. He earned Provost List honors in 2020 and is a four-time Dean’s List selection.

He has also been a four-time Athletic Director Honor Roll and eight-time CAA Commissioner’s List selection.

Character

Altmann, a team captain, is the epitome of character and has grown into a tremendous leader at Hofstra. His competitiveness on the field was known before he arrived, but his work-ethic, overachieving traits, and ability to stand out soon showed.

During his sophomore campaign, Altmann began to reach out to younger players and positively impact them. He was always talking to the freshmen, using the whiteboard to draw drills and teach our guys, having a catch with teammates, or sharing words of encouragement when needed.

In Altmann’s junior season, an opponent used a racial slur towards him. Instead of letting it get to him, he proved his strong and wonderful characteristics once again. He handled himself in a first-class manner, showing his teammates how to react to adversity. It was a lesson that could only be taught that moment, and his actions will stay with the team and program for years.

Community

Altmann has spent time volunteering with organizations every year at Hofstra. Each September, Hofstra has participated in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundations 5K, which honors the sacrifice of all firefighters and first responders who risked their lives on September 11th.

He has also volunteered with Surfers Healing, which helps children with autism to learn to ride waves. Once the event finished, Altmann assisted with the cleanup and talked to families.

For the past two years, Altmann has volunteered alongside our entire athletic department with Move-In Day. Both staff and student-athletes help move in all first year students to their campus housing during this event. He has also volunteered with Wheelchair Lacrosse at the Viscardi Center, spending time with veterans of the armed forces and handicapped children.

Lastly, Altmann has participated with the Campus Connection group. Hofstra Lacrosse teaches and plays lacrosse with young adults with disabilities. He usually takes part in working with them multiple times throughout the school year.

Competition

During his career at Hofstra, Altman has played in 46 games. His 23 caused turnovers during the 2019 season ranked first for Hofstra, second in the CAA, and 31st in the country.

He has picked up 81 ground balls, scored five goals, and has five assists. In 2020, Altmann was named to the pre-season All-CAA team.
