Classroom

In the classroom, Michael Fuhrman maintains an overall grade-point average of 3.4 while majoring in marketing and minoring in sports management. He is a two-time All-MAAC Academic Team selection, and he is a four-time dean’s list honoree. In the summer of 2015, Fuhrman interned with Greater Media of Detroit.

Character

“Mike has demonstrated significant character throughout his career, highlighted not only by his willingness to engage in community service projects, but by his eagerness to seek them out,” said Niagara Head Coach Rob McCoy. “Although Niagara baseball doesn’t have captains, if we did, Mike would be one. He is an excellent leader on and off the field and in the classroom. He exemplifies the core cultural values of the EAGLES: Excellence, Accountability, Grit, Love, Energy and Selflessness.”

Community

Fuhrman is very involved in the community and has completed many community service hours. He has participated in the Light the Night Walk for Leukemia and Lymphoma in which he spent eight hours walking to raise awareness. He played baseball with special-needs children of the Miracle League of Grand Island and Western New York, visited kids at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, helped feed the less fortunate at the Niagara Falls Soup Kitchen, moved furniture with the charitable organization ReUse Buffalo and spent 24 hours walking for the Four Diamonds Fund to raise awareness about pediatric cancer.

Competition

In 2015, Fuhrman led the Purple Eagles with a .340 batting average, which was also the fourth-best batting average in the MAAC. He also had the top on-base percentage (.476) in the MAAC in 2015 and was named to the All-MAAC Second Team at the conclusion of the 2015 season. He has been named MAAC Player of the Week two times in his career, as well as being named to the 2016 All-MAAC Preseason Team and College Sports Madness’ All-MAAC First Team. Fuhrman is also predicted by D1Baseball.com to be the 2016 MAAC Player of the Year.
