Community

Hentz traveled abroad to Vietnam in the summer of 2018 with the ACE program, which provides one-time funding for accepted Stanford and Duke student-athletes to participate in a three-week, immersive summer service experience with an international community partner. Hentz is a member of Kids with Dreams on Stanford’s campus, which partners a Stanford student with a child with a disability. Kids with Dreams is an organization of Stanford students dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with special needs. Through its weekly programs, the organization networks Stanford volunteers with community organizations to connect them with children and young adults with special needs. Through fun activities, both volunteers and kids get to have a blast while building skills and meaningful friendships.

Hentz coached at Encore Volleyball Club in Redwood City and helped the women’s volleyball team earn the Stanford Athletics department’s Community Service Award the past two seasons. Some of the service that went toward this award included serving food at St. Anthony Padua’s dining room and spending time at Westside Food Bank in Santa Monica while on the road trip to Los Angeles. Hentz also read to kids and helped promote literacy at A, B, Trees. She tutored students at the Boys & Girls Club of East Palo Alto, held a clinic at the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco, and volunteered at Cardinalpalooza, playing volleyball with kids. During the season, she had matches dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness, One Love and Equality.
