Nate Kohl has been named an Academic All-Big Ten selection (2016), a first-team Academic All-Ohio honoree (2016) and a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.

Character

Kohl has been a leader since the day he got to campus. His ability to connect with his teammates and lead by example has been outstanding. Kohl understands the competitive side of sports and the life lessons that are learned from them off the field. He is humble, honest and a great human being who has been a role model for the younger players.

Community

Kohl’s community involvement includes the Soles4Souls trip to Ecuador last May. Soles4Souls is a global not-for-profit institution dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty, allowing volunteers to gain insight of the basic needs of impoverished third world communities. He was one of 12 student-athletes from The Ohio State University who asked to join the trip. He also volunteered at Columbus Collision Wheelchair Rugby Tournament as well as four-foot hoops wheelchair basketball. He got involved with the 2nd & 7 foundation, which is a program that promotes reading for children and providing free books and a positive role models to kids in need. His other involvements with the community include Kick It for Cancer and the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

Competition

Kohl’s athletic awards and honors include the following: Big Ten Preseason Honors List (2017), second-team All-Big Ten (2016), Nike Classic All-Tournament Team (2016) and second-team All-Ohio (2016). He led the team in scoring a year ago with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists), took a team-high 33 shots with 18 on target. He scored his first career game-winning goal with 23 seconds remaining in double overtime against his former team, Michigan (Oct. 21). He transferred from Michigan in 2015 and has made 20 starts in 21 appearances for Ohio State as of nomination time.
