Nicole Pasciolla is an economics major and has an overall GPA of 3.96. A two-time CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team honoree (2009, 2010) and a NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region award winner, she has received straight As her entire academic career at St. John’s with the exception of one A-. She has been a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Freshman Honor Society, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.7. In 2009, she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society, which requires candidates of senior status to rank in the upper 10 percent of their class at graduation, or juniors to rank among the highest four percent of their class. She was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society in spring 2009 for achieving outstanding academic achievements (3.4 minimum GPA), exemplary character and commitment to serving the community. She has also received the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll Gold Medallion for receiving a 4.0 GPA for seven semesters. Pasciolla was also a BIG EAST Academic All-Star for three years and has been on the Tobin College of Business Dean’s List since fall of 2006.  She was one of a select group of people that participated in the GLOBE (Global Loan Opportunities for Budding Entrepreneurs) Microloan Program. The program is a student-managed academic program that provides loans to entrepreneurs in the developing world. St. John’s students selected for this program are educated about the world of microfinance while helping the poorest of the poor help themselves and their families out of poverty. Student participants manage all aspects of the program, including vetting loan applications, marketing the program, tracking fund flows, fundraising, providing technology to the field, and measuring program success.

Character

Pasciolla embraces the university’s Vincentian Mission, which is defined as striving to excel academically, being highly involved in community service projects and furthering efforts toward global harmony and development. This is evident every day with Pasciolla, as she is always ready to help her teammates, spends a significant amount of her spare time involved in community service initiatives and excels in the classroom. She was a member of the Vincentian Initiative to Advance Leadership (V.I.T.A.L.) from 2006-07, which services society’s poor and marginalized by conducting monthly leadership and spirituality workshops focused on improving communication and teamwork in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul. Pasciolla earned the highest honor a student could earn when she was inducted into the President’s Society in 2009. The society consists of those students who combine scholarship, integrity and maturity with leadership skills demonstrated by their significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the university. Members of the Society are considered part of the President’s official staff and are designated special duties at university functions. They are often paired with prominent alumni, world leaders and well-known humanitarians. Since the fall of 2009, she has served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Additionally, she was awarded the St. John’s University Student-Athlete Leadership Track II Certificate, the Founders Week Recognition Award and St. John’s University Women in Sports Day Appreciation & Recognition Award.

Community

Pasciolla has been a leader on campus for community service projects and spends her spare time participating in numerous activities. She has visited St. Nick’s Men’s Homeless Shelter, cooking dinner and sharing a meal with the men while engaging in conversation.  She has participated in the Athletics Blood Drive for three years and has been involved in the Relay for Life from 2008-10, raising awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society through an overnight walk. She has been participating in the Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run since she arrived on campus. Pasciolla has also been a part of the St. Baldrick’s/Locks of Love Fundraising Event, the Community Mayor Program, City Year Long Island City Local Schools Program, the Midnight Run and A Night In Solidarity with the Homeless.

Competition

Pasciolla is one of the top players on the women’s soccer team. The midfielder has played in 78 career games and started 77. In 2010,
Pasciolla has played a key role in seven Red Storm shutouts. She is a four-time All-BIG EAST team honoree, after just being named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2010. She is also a two-time Soccer Buzz All-Northeast Region award winner, she earned freshman All-American honors and TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie honors. A leader on the field, she enjoyed one of her best seasons in 2009, leading the Red Storm to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance and to its second-most wins in
history with 13. For her efforts in helping STJ reach the BIG EAST semifinals for only the second time in history, she garnered All-BIG EAST Tournament team honors.
