Character

Culver was chosen as a team captain because she exemplifies excellent leadership abilities. States Head Coach Rob Marinaro: “Paige sets the example right from the start for the team during practices and workouts. She holds everyone to a high standard on and off the field and builds personal relationships with her teammates so that she can be the best leader possible.”

Community

The Oakville, Ontario, native has been very active in the Kent community as she is involved in many on- and off-campus projects. She volunteers as an International Student Mentor and helps international student-athletes become more familiar with the university by encouraging them to use school recourses and helping them navigate around campus. Culver helps students get acclimated to living in the United States and attends social gatherings to take the students to dinner and spend time with them. She also volunteers her time at One of a Kind Pet Rescue Center in Akron to walk dogs around the community. Along with the team, she visits patients at Akron Children’s Hospital throughout the year.

Competition

In 2018, Culver was selected to the MAC Herman Award Watch List to follow up last season when she was named a third-team All-American. In 2017, she was the key to the KSU defense, which tied the program record with 11 shutouts. Last season, she was also named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the All-MAC First Team, All-Midwest Region First Team and All-Ohio First Team. As of nomination time, she had started all 66 matches and had not missed a match in her collegiate career. During her sophomore and junior seasons, she had helped the Kent State defense post top-50 national rankings in goals against average and shutout percentage. The Flashes have compiled a record of 39-14-8 during her three full seasons of competition, and she led Kent State to a MAC Regular Season Championship, MAC Tournament Championship and the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
