Pat McInerney has a 3.48 cumulative GPA with a double major in business and business process management and marketing. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Character

McInerney is a 2015 Richard C. “Itch” Jones Scholarship Award winner, presented to a leader and role model within the baseball program. He is a leader of the team and a great representative of Ilini baseball within the community.

Community

McInerney has contributed to the community in many ways. He has volunteered at the Crazy K 5K, visited orphanages in Dominican Republic and volunteered at a food shelter in Chicago. He also has helped at the 94.5 Christmas Drive, through which the Illini donated $5,000 to charity, and he has volunteered with the Danny Did Foundation, advancing awareness of epilepsy and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.

Competition

Already this season, McInerney has earned a spot on the Kleberg Bank College Classic All-Tournament Team and was named a Perfect Game Preseason All-Big Ten selection at designated hitter.

In 2016, McInerney led the team in batting average (.347) and home runs (3) during Big Ten games, and led the team with seven home runs and multi-hit games (20). He was second on the team in RBIs (27), third on the team in runs (28), and tied for second on the team in multi-RBI games (5).

A career .283 hitter in 127 career games and 117 career starts at the beginning of the 2017 season, McInerney was a 2015 All-Big Ten Third Team member as a sophomore after earning an impressive stat line of .301 (58-193), 28 R, 9 2B, 7 HR, 27 RBIs, 19 BB and 38 SO.
