Paul Hoffmeister was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in 2016 and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America First Team. He is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree (2015, 2016) and a three-time Academic All-WAC (2014-2016) honoree. He graduated in December of 2016 after his junior season of competition with a 3.93 cumulative GPA.

Character

Hoffmeister is an international student who graduated in less than three years and returned for his senior season of eligibility. He is an excellent student and ambassador for Utah Valley University.

Community

Hoffmeister volunteered with his old kindergarten Die Kleinen Strolche in Hilden, Germany. He visited and assisted a number of hours per week in various sport activities with young children. He also assisted on a regular basis with soccer clinics for amateur soccer clubs in Hilden and specialized in training young soccer players, raising money and accepting clothing donations for families in need in the broader Düsseldorf, Germany, area. At Grundschule am Lerchenweg, Monheim, he supported the school by providing soccer lessons to elementary kids and local refugees. Additionally, he helped set-up Wi-Fi in a retirement home for the elderly in Hilden, where he also helped teach some of the senior citizens how to use the Internet. He also worked on an art project with Fortuna Düsseldorf and the artist Nam June Park at Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. The project was able to create some video art with soccer players and the team Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Competition

Hoffmeister is the program’s first All-American, receiving honor from United Soccer Coaches (third team) and College Soccer News (third team). He was an All-WAC First Team member and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team honoree in 2016 and second-team All-WAC honoree as a sophomore in 2015. He helped the team to a national ranking throughout the 2016 regular season and led the team with nine goals.
