Reed currently has a 3.43 grade-point average entering the final semester of his senior year majoring in Chemistry with minors in Business and pre-professional health. He was a 2012 Capital One Academic All-America third team selection and has twice been named to the Capital One Academic All-District squad. He has been named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.25+ GPA for academic year) each of his three seasons and to the Austin Peay Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0+ GPA) each of his seven semesters.

Character

Austin Peay Assistant Coach Joel Mangrum assessed Reed’s character: “Reed is a tremendous human being. He is the type of individual that consistently raises the bar for the people around him and helps those individuals reach that bar. Reed has been a leader on our baseball team since his sophomore year. He has displayed a positive attitude, a resilience to overcome in tough times, and a character that has blended with a lot of his teammates. Reed always makes the right decisions when it comes to right and wrong. You can rely on him to do what he is suppose to and always be in the right position. Reed is not your typical 18 to 22 year old as he is an excellent student, a tremendous athlete, and a man of character. He routinely pushes his teammates around him to be active in church and our community. Reed deserves any recognition he receives because he is truly what we want our college athletes to be.”

Community

Reed is active in the Clarksville High School Life Skills Program and is an active member of Austin Peay’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter. He has participated in the annual Govs Give Back Charity event. Reed has participated in Austin Peay’s free baseball camp each season during his career and has been active in supporting Clarksville-area little leagues. During the summer baseball season, Reed has participated in community service projects and baseball camps in both Forest City and Fayetteville, NC.

Competition

Reed is a highly accomplished shortstop, playing every game of his career (175 games). He recorded his 200th career hit last season (ending campaign with 204 hits) becoming one of only two APSU players to record 200 hits in three seasons. Last season Reed was named to the Brooks Walace Award Watch List as one of the nation’s top shortstops and was selected to OVC All-Tournament Team. In 2011, Reed was a first team All-OVC pick at shortstop and was named to the NCAA All-Atlanta Region Team. He has been named to the Coastal Plains League (summer baseball league) All-Star Team each of his three seasons participating in that league and most recently was selected to the Perfectgame.org Summer Collegiate All-America Team. Reed is ranked among Austin Peay’s career top 25 in 11 statistical categories.
