Character
Schreck, even as he has battled numerous injuries, continues to be a leader for the Blue Devils.
He creates greatly about his peers and spearheaded the program’s racial and social justice committee in 2020. It pledged to be actively anti-racist and promoted their decision throughout the team, in addition to crafting statements for the public and fans.
Community
Hailing from California, Schreck wasted no time in accepting Durham and placing an emphasis on the community.
In 2019, Schreck served with a local church, feeding the homeless breakfast through the Durham Rescue Mission. He has also worked with the Miracle League to run a baseball camp for the developmentally disabled. In addition, Schreck has assisted the Blue Devils in their partnership with the Durham Long Ball Program, donating baseball equipment to the league.
Before the pandemic, he had partnered with the All in All the Time Foundation and worked a camp with his teammates with all of the proceeds being donated to the foundation. All in All the Time helps alleviate the financial burden on surviving families of fallen warriors.
Competition
Schreck had a breakout campaign last season, earning All-ACC third team and ABCA All-Region second team honors. He became one of the conference’s best hitters after battling injuries the previous two seasons. Schreck recorded 18 home runs, 52 RBI, and a .635 SLG, which all ranked inside the top-10 in the ACC. His home run mark ranked fourth in program history, while his SLG also put him inside of the top 10.
At the 2021 Knoxville Regional, Schreck had a career day (4-5 with three home runs) to help lead the Blue Devils to earn NCAA All-Regional Team honors.
