Even though Hawkins is only in his first year at Creighton, he has quickly immersed himself as a vocal leader for a team with eight freshman. Head Coach Greg McDermott has called him the perfect fit for what the team needed.

Community

Hawkins is extremely active in the community.

He hails from Atlantic, Iowa, and has gone back to speak to elementary school students about how hard-work is key in both school and athletics. Hawkins emphasized the importance of creating a balance between school and sports. He has also volunteered in different community projects through parks and recreation.

Competition

Hawkins is only the second Blue Jay in the last 40 years to record a double-double in their debut, doing so by tallying 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Before Creighton, Hawkins dominated at the DII level with Northwest Missouri State. He led his teams to a 159-8 record that included three national titles. Hawkins recorded 2,098 points, 948 rebounds, 225 steals, and 176 assists in five years. He was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year twice and was also selected to the All-MIAA first team two times.

Hawkins demonstrated an innate scoring ability, as he tallied 14 games of 30+ points and 44 games of 20+ points.
