Character

McGee is a team captain and a genuine leader both on and off the field. On the field, the offense runs through him, and while it is apparent through his statistics that he is successful—last season, he totaled 56 points—it is the breakdown of these points that truly shows the kind of teammate McGee is. While he led the team in goals scored last season (34), McGee also led the squad in assists with 22, 10 more than the player with the second-highest assist total. Off the field, McGee has been involved in numerous community service opportunities, and he exhibited his leadership this past fall when he was the lead organizer in the team’s participation in the Kinney Center for Austim 5K—an event in which the men’s lacrosse team helped to raise over $1,500. McGee’s work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles was apparent after coming back stronger than ever after a 2013 season that left him sidelined by injury.

Community

McGee has participated in the Martin Luther King Day of Service (2011-15), which has involved cleaning up public trails and renovating elementary schools. This fall, McGee organized Saint Joseph’s participation in the Kinney Center for Autism 5K en route to raising over $1,500. Also, this past fall, along with his teammates, McGee participated in a free lacrosse clinic in for local youth. During the fall 2011 and 2012 semesters, McGee spent two hours per week helping tutor elementary and middle school students at a local after-school program with a group of teammates. Leading up to the 2012 presidential election, McGee participated in a program to make phone calls to local community members to encourage participation in voting and also arranged rides for those in need. McGee also participated in several days of service during summer internships. In 2013, he went to Cradles to Crayons with a group of teammates to sort boxes of donated clothes. In 2014, he and his teammates helped package boxes of food for donation to needy families. During both of those 2013 and 2014 summers, McGee participated in Vanguards All Cans on Deck initiative, which is a partnership with the United Way designed to replenish local food pantries that are running low on donated goods during the summer.
