Character

The Gamecocks have leaned on D’Angelo since she arrived. Just the fourth freshman in program history to start an opener, the netminder has been an indispensible member of the team throughout her career and is one of the squad’s strongest leaders. A team captain, D’Angelo is often the first on the field before practice and the last to leave after. While she receives heaps of individual accolades, D’Angelo is always quick to give the credit to her teammates that play in front of her.

Community

D’Angelo has totaled 80 hours of community service during her career at South Carolina. She enjoys working with children and frequents local camps and clinics. She also stays after each home game to greet and sign autographs for fans. D’Angelo has logged hours at the Ronald McDonald House, local hospitals and university events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Boy Scouts Day and National Girls and Women in Sports Day. She has helped set the tone for the team which was named the university’s Community Outreach Team of the Year with over 1300 hours of community service over the 2013-14 academic year.

Competition

One of the finest goalkeepers in South Carolina history, D’Angelo became the program’s first semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy in 2013 and is one of four semifinalists from last season to make the 2014 Watch List. Her freshman season (2011) D’Angelo became the first player in SEC history to take home two Player of the Year honors, capturing SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year. D’Angelo was also named 2013 SEC Defensive Player of the Year after racking up 12 shutouts, the second most in school history, posting a 0.59 goals against average to lead to conference and captaining the Gamecocks to the first undefeated home season in school history (11-0-0). She was awarded the university’s Female Athlete of the Year Award as well. Named to numerous All-America teams over the last three seasons, she has anchored the Gamecocks’ defense for two of the three best seasons in South Carolina history, including the 2011 SEC Tournament championship squad. The Welland, Ontario, native has also made appearances on the international level for Canada.
