Sam Merrill is a two-time academic All-Mountain West honoree and a three-time USU scholar-athlete.
Character
Merrill is a team captain and is always one of the first student-athletes into the gym and one of the last to leave. He regularly interacts with local, regional, and national media members to showcase USU in a positive light.
Community
Merrill is actively involved in community service projects including visiting the sick and elderly, reading with elementary school students, and serving food at local soup kitchens. He has served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in Nicaragua.
Competition
Merrill leads Utah State in scoring during the 2019-20 season and is among the top-10 in school history in career points. He was named the 2019 MW Player of the Year and MW Tournament MVP. He is a two-time All-Mountain West selection and was an AP honorable mention All-American in 2019.
