Sarah Grace Nicholson is an excellent student who holds a 3.73 grade-point average in marketing and management with a minor in graphic design. Nicholson was selected to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team in 2015. This spring Nicholson was selected by her professors to collaborate with a group of students to produce promotional objectives and strategies for Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company on the local and national level. Nicholson studied abroad in Italy for three weeks this May, where she studied Italian food and culture at the University of Richmond in Florence.
Nicholson has completed internships each of the past two summers. The first was with Business Solver, a local Des Moines company, as a graphic design and product marketing intern. At Business Solver, Nicholson helped boost brand promotion by delivering updated and relevant information to the marketplace, created information for client communication and contributed to the brainstorm and collaboration of emerging business plans. Nicholson’s second internship was with Adidas as a global marketing intern. Nicholson also holds a Drake Presidential Scholarship and is a member of the American Marketing Association.

Character

Nicholson is a two-year team captain. She has twice been voted on by her coaches and teammates for most exemplifying core values and expectations on the team. Nicholson was voted the team’s most improved player as a freshman.

Community

For volunteer work, Nicholson and her team participate in Community in Action (CIA) each month. A different class is in charge of setting up volunteer work with a new organization. In the past Nicholson has volunteered with Courage League Sports, Combat Hunger Food Collection and a group that works with children who have parents in prison. She is a member of the Drake Bulldogs “Emerging Leaders,” which teaches leadership skills to Drake student-athletes. Nicholson also has volunteered as a coach for the West Des Moines Soccer Club.

Competition

Through early September, Nicholson has played in more than 60 matches in her Drake career and is a three-year letterwinner. Last season (2015), she played in 14 matches and scored one goal and handed out three assists. Nicholson was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year that season along with being named to the All-MVC First Team. As a freshman, Nicholson was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team. Already as a senior, Nicholson has been named MVC Defensive Player of the Week once.
