Character

Despite being selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 29th round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Hagan returned to St. John’s to continue both playing baseball and working towards completion of his combined degree program.  Sean is scheduled to complete undergraduate coursework this spring and graduate coursework in the spring of 2014.

Community

Hagan has served the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a team representative since his freshman year.  Hagan has also been involved with the University’s Campus Ministry program since his freshman year and has done community service work with the Miracle League of Long Island, the parish at St. John’s The Baptist and the St. Nicholas of Tolentine Men’s Shelter, and has participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

Competition

Hagan was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 29th round (880th overall) in the 2012 MLB Draft, but he instead elected to return to school for his senior season.  A 2013 preseason All-Big East choice, the lefty was a second team ABCA All-Northeast Region and first team All-Big East honoree last season after going 8-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 16 starts.  The workhorse tossed a school-record 108.2 innings and became the first Red Storm pitcher to toss two complete games in a single season since 2005.  Hagan worked at least 6.0 innings in 14-of-16 starts and allowed two earned runs or less in nine starts.  The lefty is 20-6 in his career with a 3.70 ERA and already ranks tied for seventh on the all-time St. John’s wins list.
