Much of the basis for the formation of the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award was born out of the story of Shane Battier. The former Duke All-American was a projected NBA “lottery pick” following his junior season but, rather than leaving college early, Battier elected to return for his senior year.

And what a year it was. Battier led a Duke charge to the National Championship and was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player. By choosing to remain a Blue Devil one more year, Battier etched his name all over the NCAA and Duke record books. He was the consensus choice as the National Player of the Year for both the Wooden Award and Naismith Award. His jersey now hangs in the rafters at one of college basketball’s most revered schools.

Battier left a legacy for others to follow – one that says that the rewards can be high for someone whose dream is to finish their collegiate eligibility, earn a degree and maximize their college experience.
