Classroom

Sigourney Kame excels in the classroom and on the court, having made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll six times, the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and the President’s List (perfect 4.0 GPA) twice. She also made the C-USA All-Academic Team as a sophomore.

Character

Kame left her home country of Suriname to attend FAU and immediately garnered a well-earned reputation for being one of the kindest, most personable student-athletes in the entire athletic department. She has been frequently singled out, not only by other coaches, but by faculty and staff members on campus for her congenial personality. She is often cited by the volleyball coaching staff as everything they could want in a student-athlete and is an outstanding representative of the best parts of intercollegiate athletics.

Community

Kame can often be found doing community service either alongside her teammates or through her church and leaves a favorable impression on all of those with whom she interacts. During the summer, she volunteered at the FAU Well Program, which encourages physical fitness among senior citizens in their later years. She also participated in numerous community service events as a member of the FAU volleyball team, including volunteering at Boca helping hands, a community kitchen at the YMCA in Boca Raton, and assisted in a campus 5K that encourages embracing diversity among the many community members. An active member in her local church, Kame has also taken part in several community outreach events with fellow members of her congregation.

Competition

Already a three-time all-conference selection, Kame was named to the C-USA Preseason All-Conferernce Team this year. A two-time C-USA First Team selection (2017, 2018), she entered her senior year sixth in school history in career hitting percentage (.276) and eighth in career kills (1,006). She is on pace to finish her career second in school history in career kills and has a chance to become just the second player in program history to earn all-conference recognition for four straight years. As a freshman in 2016, she was a member of the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

Kame has also competed at the international level for her native Suriname, leading the team to the gold medal at the U-23 CAZOVA Championships and earning MVP honors in the process. She is currently a member of the Surinamese senior national team.
