A standout in the classroom, Tate Schmitt’s academic honors include the following honors and achievements: 2017 All-ACC Academic Team; 2015 All-ACC Academic Team; ACC Honor Roll (2016-17, 2017-18); Athletic Director Honor Roll (Fall 2015, Spring 2016, Fall 2016, Spring 2017, Fall 2017, Spring 2018); Red and Black Scholar (Fall 2016, Spring 2017, Fall 2017, Spring 2018); College of Business Dean’s List (Fall 2016, Spring 2017, Spring 2018).

Character

“Tate Schmitt has been a consummate student-athlete during his four years at Louisville. From his first days on campus, he has displayed leadership qualities and characteristics. He is a model on the field, especially in the most competitive and high-profile situations. Tate has fully immersed himself in the opportunities outside of athletics to help his growth and development. He has been active in the business program in fostering relationships with local business mentors. Likewise, he is very active in the community and is one of our leaders in community service projects. Tate is a member of the SAAC and has offered is time and experience to benefit the entire athletic department. Tate has battled several injuries throughout his time at Louisville and has used these challenging experiences to grow stronger, both mentally and physically. Community

Schmitt has participated in more than 25 total community service activities as a member of the Louisville men’s soccer team. His community service activities include visiting with students at Churchill Park School, West End School and Portland Elementary School. His other community service endeavors include the following: Parkland Boys and Girls Club, Read Across America, American Lung Association of Kentucky, Metro Parks Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation, Louie’s Fit Friends, Douglass Community Center, Lord’s Kitchen, Americana and Go4theGoal.

Competition

Schmitt earned All-ACC Second Team honors and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team accolades while scoring team-leading nine goals to go with three assists for Louisville in 2017. He started all 20 matches for the No. 7 Cardinals last season scoring four game-winning goals, including the clinching goals in NCAA Championship wins against San Francisco and Colgate. Schmitt scored five goals and added two assists while starting all 22 matches for the Cardinals during his sophomore season in 2016. He delivered game-winning goals in back-to-back NCAA Championship victories against UCLA (Nov. 20) and No. 13 Notre Dame (Nov. 27). He was named to ACC All-Freshman Team as well as the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshman Best XI Second Team after leading the Cardinals with seven goals and adding three assists in 2015 and appearing in all 19 matches, including 13 starts. He also led the team with four game-winning goals in first season.
