Classroom

Colwell has a 4.00 cumulative GPA through Fall 2013.  He is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America first team selection, the highest academic award voted on nationally. He has been named to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll, Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, Academic All-League and Distinguished Scholar lists each year possible.  His zoology major is focused on pre-med and he is minoring in Spanish.  He plans to graduate next spring and attend medical school.

Character

Colwell was voted as team captain by his teammates, and is charged with leading a team that has ramped up its off-season preparations after losing in the Summit League championship game each of the past two years.  Off the field, he is also a member of a weekly bible study group on campus.

Community

Colwell has volunteered working with youth at TNT Fitness each year and also assists at the Great Plains Food Bank.  During his time with the St. Cloud Rox in the Northwoods League, he volunteered at a Faith in Action baseball camp, made nursing home visits, was a children’s reader at the public library, and visited a Kids Stop to play and visit with children.

Competition

A four-year starter, Colwell is North Dakota State’s center fielder and leadoff hitter. He is a two-time All-Summit League first team outfielder and was NDSU’s first Division I all-region performer in 2012 when he hit .381 with a school-record 91 hits and nine triples in 60 games.  He has a .342 career batting average, holds the school record with 17 triples, is second in hits and among the top 10 in stolen bases and runs scored, among other categories.
