Classroom

Tim Faix earned his undergraduate degree in December 2015 with a 3.6 grade-point average. He was immediately accepted into graduate school and is working toward his master’s degree. He earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2015 and was a nominee for CoSida Academic All-District. He also received Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention in 2014. Faix has been the recipient of two different endowments at Kent State.

Character

Faix is a true leader on and off the field. He is on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a Student-Athlete Advancement Ambassador. He also has overcome adversity in his career. In 2013, he was struck in the eye in an early season practice and had to undergo surgery. After a medical redshirt, he has come back strong to be a staple in the pitching staff despite vision problems stemming from the injury. Faix is a leader on the team, constantly mentoring younger players and setting a proper example regarding how to behave on and off the field.

Community

Faix has volunteered with numerous organizations. That list includes visiting the Akron Children’s Hospital, making peace baskets at the King Kennedy Center, participating in the Moving with the Flashes program at a local school, feeding the homeless at Kent Social Services and participating in the Akron Y-Bridge Project. He always is one of the first students to volunteer when opportunities become available to team. Faix also has taken part in the athletic department’s strategic visioning; being on the Mission, Vision and Values committee; and being involved in the Gender, Equity, and Inclusion sub-working group.

Competition

Faix has played a pivotal role on the pitching staff during his time at Kent State. He helped the team post the 5th-lowest ERA and 5th-most strikeouts in a season in program history in 2015. During his freshman season, he had the lowest ERA on the team and has since provided a confident and reliable arm out of the bullpen. He also has a few starts under his belt during midweek contests. As of March 9, Faix had made five appearances in seven games this season, allowing just one earned run in that span and appearing against two top-10 ranked teams.
