TJ Haws is majoring in finance and is on track to graduate from BYU’s nationally ranked program in April. In 2018-19, he was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 First Team. Haws is a two-time Academic All-WCC honoree and a three-time member of the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Character

Haws was a team captain in 2018-19 and is well-respected amongst his teammates and other student-athletes. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in France prior to enrolling at BYU.

Community

Haws is involved in a non-profit organization called Reach the Stars that helps teenagers in Mali with their education. He played an important role in helping both the 2018 and 2019 volunteer groups prepare for Mali, while also opening a school. Haws has assisted in securing supplies that the school needed and volunteered with the Mac’s Gift Foundation during his three years at BYU. Haws and his teammates are in partnership with Lift, Love, Serve and host a basketball camp for children with autism.

Competition

Haws was named to the All-WCC Second Team and earned a spot on the NABC All-District 9 Second Team as a junior in 2018-19. He was named the Feb. 18, 2019 WCC Player of the Week. TJ received All-WCC Honorable Mention as a sophomore and received a spot on the All-WCC First Team as a freshman. His career averages are 14.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Haws has made 183 career 3-pointers and ranks sixth in BYU history. He is also fifth in free-throw percentage and ninth in assists. Haws enters his senior season 19th all-time in scoring at BYU.
