Classroom

Hornsby is on pace to graduate this summer with a 3.36 GPA as a double major in Industrial Technology Management and Occupational Safety and Health. He has been a member of the Dean’s List, the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the JSU Athletic Academic Hall of Fame.

Character

Hornsby leads by example and assisted with tornado relief efforts after devasting tornados ripped through the State of Alabama on April 27, 2011. He volunteered countless hours in assisting victims in clean up and also assisting other volunteers. He and other members of the baseball team specifically assisted several families whose homes were totally destroyed in the tornados. In Calhoun County, where JSU is located, there were nine deaths related directly to the tornados.

Community

Hornsby represents the baseball team and speaks at local elementary, junior high and high schools on living a drug-free life. He also works at local baseball camps and youth baseball clinics.

Competition

Hornsby set the school and Ohio Valley Conference records with 15 saves during the 2011 season, earning first-team All-OVC honors for his efforts. He made 30 relief appearances and posted a 5-4 overall record with a 2.01 ERA. He struck out 45 batters and held opponents to just a .232 batting average. Hornsby was also a finalist for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Stopper of the Year Award. He enters his senior season as the OVC preseason Pitcher of the Year as well as a preseason All-American and All-OVC selection.
