Classroom

Smith graduated with his criminal justice degree in 2020. He has been named to the AAC All-Academic team twice and ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll five times.

He is currently working towards his graduate certificate in security studies.

Character

Smith, a team leader, decided to come back for his senior season. He is a mentor to many of the young pitchers on the roster.

Community

Smith, along with his teammates, has volunteered with several programs in the community. They have worked with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Team IMPACT, Riley’s Army, Cypress Glenn Retirement Community Flood Relief, Red Cross, First Born Community Development Hurricane Relief, and the Jackie Robinson League.

They have also volunteered with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pirate Trash Pickup, Center and the James, ACES for Autism, Make-A-Wish, and the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital.

Competition

For his career, Smith has appeared in 61 games with 30 starts over four seasons. He owns an 18-3 record and has been a member of the rotation since is sophomore campaign. Smith sports a 3.71 ERA while surrendering only 89 runs on 186 hits in 196.2 innings. He has struck out 128 batters and held opponents to 63 walks and a .252 BA.

In 2018, he was named to the All-AAC second team.

Smith has helped ECU record 137 wins since arriving, winning an AAC-best 20 in the 2019 season. The Pirates have won two AAC Championships and have hosted consecutive NCAA Regionals in Greenville. He is also a member of the 2019 Regional Championship team that advanced to the Louisville Super Regional.
