Classroom

As a sports management major, Tyler White carries a 3.218 grade-point average, pulling down a 3.083 GPA last semester. His GPA was part of a team grade-point average over 3.0, the team’s goal for each semester.

Character

White is a self-sacrificing goalie, always quick to mention that his individual success and the team’s success is based on the defense and team in front of him. He would always rather see the team have success rather than earn personal glory. This season, the team voted him as one of three captains for his character and leadership abilities. White has often taken a teammate aside to help that player develop and work within the team’s system.

Community

White has been a huge part of the Tigers’ community service programs during his time at Towson. This season, he was key in helping the men’s lacrosse team raise nearly $10,000 for HEADstrong Foundation’s Mustache Madness, collecting over $400. Earlier in the fall, he joined pink T-shirt-clad teammates in nearby Hunt Valley, Md., for the 2015 Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure 5k. White lost his mother to breast cancer while he was in high school, so it’s a cause close to his heart, and the team’s late academic advisor, Bobbi Madison, also passed away from breast cancer a few years ago. White was a coordinator for the program in running the Race for a Cure and the “Pink PAWS” effort on campus. In the fall of 2014, he also coordinated the team’s efforts in the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run, hosted at Towson. Other community service endeavors include the Best Buddies 5k, working at the department’s blood drive for the CAA Blood Challenge and volunteering time to work with Charm City Youth Lacrosse in Baltimore and the Relay for Life.

Competition

On the field, White is one of the best. Last season, he finished with a program-record 7.57 single-season goals against average while backstopping the sixth-best defense in the country. He was named a third-team All-American, CAA Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-CAA. In Towson’s 18 games last season, White and his defense held opponents under 10 goals on 14 occasions, including just eight against UMass in the 2015 CAA Championship game, en route to the program’s fifth CAA title and second in the last three seasons. With nearly 2,000 minutes under his belt, White has a career goals against average of 8.52, which currently ranks second in program history. In 2015, White stopped shots at a .567 percent clip, sixth-best for a single season at Towson. This season, White has a solid chance to move into the top 10 in program history for career saves, sitting at 318 to date. He has a career record of 20-13, including 12 wins last year, the most for the program since winning 11 in 2005. White was named a preseason honorable mention All-American and was named to the preseason All-CAA First Team for the Tigers, who were picked first in the league’s preseason predicted order of finish.
