Classroom

Vanessa Shippy is pursuing a double major in marketing and finance, which makes it even more impressive to consider that she is a two-time first-team Academic All-American. She is also a two-time Academic All-District and first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection. Last year, she was one of just five Big 12 student-athletes to earn a coveted 4.0 GPA.

Character

Shippy embodies what a college athlete should aspire to be. On numerous occasions she has been the anchor of the OSU softball team. Each day, she is the leader that the 26 other girls follow, and every task she has put in front of her gets her complete effort. Nothing is left unfinished. And even with being a double major, a student-athlete and doing countless things to serve her community, she does it all with an ear-to-ear smile. She is a shining example of what college athletics is all about.

Community

Shippy has spent much of her free time serving within the Stillwater community and abroad. The list is long and full of various tasks, but some of her projects and causes have included the following: collected and delivered clothing donations at the Stillwater Women’s Shelter; read stories to classes at Sangre Ridge Elementary; helped load and unload students from buses at Westwood Elementary; cleaned and fed kittens at Tiny Paws Rescue Center; and collected food, clothing and money, as well as put together Thanksgiving food boxes for families in need for the Salvation Army. She has also taken part in several Coaches vs. Cancer activities during her time at OSU, as well as working with the Stillwater Steele Organization, the Stillwater Area Sports Association and volunteering at the Children’s Hospital.

Competition

During her OSU career, Shippy has placed herself among the elite Cowgirls in program history. She is the only Cowgirl ever to earn multiple All-America and Academic All-America honors, as she earned both those titles in each of the past two seasons (third-team All-America 2017, first-team Academic All-America 2016). She has also set or has a chance to set several school records as she enters her senior campaign. The left-handed hitter currently owns the program’s career on-base percentage record at .502 and is the only player in team history with an above-.500 on-base percentage in multiple seasons (.543 - 2016, .517 - 2017). She also ranks fifth in career batting average (.381) and fourth in career slugging percentage (.562). Last year, she led Oklahoma State in several statistical categories including batting average, hits, runs batted in, total bases and more. She also finished second among the Cowgirls in runs scored, walks, stolen bases and on-base percentage.
