Classroom

Zach Johnson has a GPA of 3.19 in industrial engineering, including eight semesters of 3.0 or higher. Johnson is a two-time member of the Dean’s List and has been a two-time Big East Academic All-Star and four-time Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll member.

Character

While Johnson’s athletic accomplishments make him one of the greatest goalkeepers in West Virginia history, his development as a man is what makes him stand out. Johnson has grown tougher, become more conscious of his responsibility to be a leader and more appreciative of the opportunities of that have been afforded to him because of his ability. Those realizations have led to Johnson becoming a man that gives back to the game, takes the pressure of the moment upon himself and dedicates his time and efforts to the community.

Community

Johnson has participated in numerous community services activities, including speaking to kids at the WVU Healthy Kids Camp, visiting with patients at HEALTHSOUTH MountainView 5k Walk Run “Cranium Crawl,” and visiting with patients in the Children’s Rehabilitation Physical Therapy Unit at Mountainview Rehabilitation Hospital. Johnson has also helped set up soccer fields for the local youth recreational program, held a Special Olympics soccer clinic, participated in the Read Aloud program at local elementary schools and participated in the OneWVU diversity program.

Competition

Johnson made the All-Big East second team last season after posting the eighth-best goals against average (0.61) in the nation. He was also honored on the NSCAA All-Northeast Region third team. As a sophomore Johnson made first-team All-Big East and earned Big East Goalkeeper of the Year honors. He enters the season with 31 career shutouts.
